Indigenous Health & Wellness
The Indigenous Health and Wellness pillar will investigate how to make cancer prevention more equitable, accessible, and culturally safe for Indigenous communities. Settler-colonial systems fail to address broad systemic structural issues that contribute to socioeconomic disparities, service gaps, and mortality; these systems have limited success in providing effective wellness and preventative services for Indigenous communities. Through collaboration with Indigenous leaders and community members, researchers can explore how to incorporate cultural sensitivity, traditional perspectives of health and healing, and Indigenous ways of knowing into cancer prevention research and initiatives.
The Indigenous Health and Wellness pillar is led by Dr. Peter Hutchinson and Melanie Matté.
